GENERAL ENGLISH

These courses focus on developing all 4 core skills of the English language: speaking, listening, reading and writing and provides students with the skills and confidence to use English both in an academic environment and at the workplace.

English programmes can be taken with supplementary One-to-One tuition, should students wish to focus on any particular area of interest.

    There are five levels available: Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate, Advanced. Upon arrival students will meet with a senior member of our staff to ensure that they are being placed in the appropriate level in order for the student to meet their learning objectives.

  • How can I progress after this course? Expand

    These courses are ideal preparation for students who require a broad training on the English language and who may wish to specialise later in one of our other courses such as IELTS, Academic English, or Business English.

IELTS

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an examination developed by Cambridge University and used internationally by universities and colleges to assess a student's suitability for academic undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

All the students who have externally sat the Cambridge University IELTS examination in 2010 have been accepted onto their postgraduate and professional programmes after completing their English courses. LSBF students who sat this examination since April 2010 have attained 6.5 as minimum score needed to progress to a Masters or Bachelors programme, while many achieved 7.0 and 7.5.

    For students who want to focus only on the skills needed to achieve at IELTS. These courses are ideal preparation for Pre-University students who require in-depth training in IELTS preparation in order to get their required score.

  • Entry CriteriaExpand

    There are three levels:   Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced.  A student should have the equivalent of IELTS 4.5 to join the Intermediate course, 5.0-5.5 for the Upper Intermediate course and 6.0 to join the Advanced course.  Upon arrival students will meet with a senior member of our staff to ensure that they are being placed in the appropriate level in order for the student to meet their learning objectives.

  • How can I progress after this course? Expand

    The IELTS courses are ideal preparation for students planning to study at Undergraduate, Postgraduate or Professional programmes at the London School of Business and Finance or who are continuing their studies with another university in the UK.

CONVERSATION CLASSES

This course aims to improve your conversation and speaking skills. It builds your confidence by providing opportunities to discuss, debate and exchange ideas, through communicative activities and tasks.

During the classes you will develop oral communication skills in a number of different areas including daily lives and the work place. The course will focus on improving fluency, and will also incorporate the vocabulary and functional language that you need to become a ‘natural English’ speaker. The classes are one academic hour long and can be taken in addition to the core 15 hour courses.

The course will cover a number of areas:

  • Functional language used in everyday situations
  • Vocabulary specific to particular topics and contexts
  • Using conversational devices such as fillers and sentences markers
  • Building confidence with both speaking and listening
  • Improving the communication in terms of message and meaning
  • Developing fluency and clarity of speech.
  • Pronunciation work

 

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Converse with greater confidence and ability
  • Recognise and use different conversational devices
  • Use functional language in a variety of contexts.
  • Communicate orally with greater success.
  • Understand and improve some of your own pronunciation issues.

ONE TO ONE CLASSES

These courses are a unique opportunity to learn and practice English on a One-to-One basis in a comfortable and uninterrupted environment. These sessions are created for each individual student to help them achieve maximum results. The one-to-one English courses can be combined with any one of the School's programmes to maximise results, and provide for a more tailor made programme.
