
The key focus of this course is the study of Financial English and is appropriate for both motivated business students working in the financial sector, or those wishing to study professional qualifications such as ACCA and CIMA. This course is also suitable for those students who want to prepare for the International Certificate in Financial English (ICFE). The Financial English course is ideal preparation for students who are continuing on to Professional, Master's and Certificate programmes at the London School of Business and Finance.
Financial English Language Skills
Reading: Reading financial articles and reports, using authentic materials such as The Financial Times and The Economist, skimming and scanning text, reading for detail, summarising main ideas.
Writing: Formal letter structures, describing graphs and data, referring to figures and trends, writing reports, effective note taking.
Speaking: Expressing opinions, clarifying and summarising, monologues (long turn section), describing processes, negotiating presentations.
Listening: Listening to talks and dialogues on financial topics, understanding detail, identifying main points, recognising opinion and attitude in speech.
Entry Level: Students must be at a high Intermediate level to enter into this course.
Who is this course for?
The Financial English course is appropriate for any non-native English speaker who currently studies, or is planning to study, a course in finance. Or for anyone who works in the financial sector and wants to improve their English.
How can I progress after this course?
The Financial English course is ideal preparation for students who are continuing on to Professional, Master’s and Certificate programmes at the London School of Business and Finance, or are continuing their studies with another University in the United Kingdom.
How many hours per week will I study?
The course is 15 hours per week but it can be combined with other morning classes.
